Trainer Taylor, On Running

I have enjoyed running my entire life, but I can remember when I got "hooked" on running. I had just turned 17 and entered a 5k. I actually won for my age group, which really surprised me! At that point the decision to try running competitively was an easy choice, not only because I enjoyed running, but I was good at it.

Since that time I have logged thousands of hours and countless miles running, and have completed a variety of races ranging from 5k's to marathons. My last competitive race was the 2016 Flying Pig. My plan was to run the 5K and 10K on Saturday and a full marathon on Sunday. I got through the 5K, 10K and 13 miles through the marathon before my knee gave out. I was clocking a 7-minute mile until then. My goal was to win the ‘4 Way’, which is the fastest person running all three races.

Through my experience I have learned many skills such as dealing with injuries, setting realistic goals, creating training plans that reflect these goals, and perhaps most importantly; embracing the training process.

Now I am trying to share these skills. Whether with an experienced athlete or someone trying to run their first race, every runner need the skills to succeed. So no matter what one's goal is l will do my best to help them achieve it, while trying to simultaneously achieve my goal; which is to simply instill the love of running.
